826 Dallas Project provides free in-school high-quality writing programs for youth ages 6-18. Our programs are designed to engage and inspire while strengthening each student's power to express ideas effectively, creatively, and confidently.

Our Programs

  • Young Authors Book Project

The Young Authors Book Project provides the space for young people to become published authors, and the opportunity to see their words featured in beautiful publications that can sit side-by-side on the shelf with any best-seller.

The Young Authors Book Project (YABP) is a powerful experience for a group of students to go deep into the writing process with the support of their teachers, and 826 Dallas Project staff; ultimately bringing students’ words into print which serves as a conduit to their city’s writing community. Whether it’s crafting memoirs of the pandemic, exploring writing through photography, or issuing calls-to-action for the social issues youth care most about, 826 Dallas Project’s YABP are a proof point that students have powerful things to say—our books honor that.

  • College Writing Workshop

The College Writing Workshop is an effort to build crucial college essay support for local high school students in Dallas. We believe that every student should have access to a trusted adult who can provide essay help. Students connect with instructors, trained volunteers, and/or peers in small groups to review and revise their college essays of their choice, or get help on the seven Common App prompts. Whether they’re starting with a blank page or a close-to-final draft, the Workshop provides free support at any phase of the writing process.

  • Writers' Room

826 Dallas Project Writers' Rooms catalyze a culture of creativity and writing for a school community. Writers’ Rooms are on-campus spaces dedicated to providing a safe comfortable writing space for students. 826 Dallas Project staff collaborate with champion classroom teachers to co-design curricula, and create a space where students feel valued, safe, and free to write. Students will have the opportunity to explore writing while building critical skills in the writing process.
